About Us

Our Story

Established in 1927 following a tent revival, Bowling Green First Church of the Nazarene has been a beacon of faith and community service in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Over the years, the congregation has worshiped in various locations, including 1st and State Street, 1st and College Street, and 10th and Payne, before settling at 1503 Westen Street. Despite challenges like the Great Depression and a devastating fire in 1974, the church has demonstrated resilience and commitment to its mission. Significant milestones include the construction of new facilities and expansions to better serve the community. Today, the church continues to focus on outreach and spiritual growth, looking forward to the future with anticipation and faith.

At Bowling Green First Church of the Nazarene, our beliefs are rooted in the core tenets of the global Church of the Nazarene, reflecting our commitment to living out our faith in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. Our Core Beliefs: - One God:We believe in one God—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. - Scriptures: We affirm that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living. - Human Nature: We acknowledge that human beings are born with a fallen nature, inclined to evil, and that continually. - Atonement: We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin. - Sanctification: We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. - Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers. - Second Coming: We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place. Our Mission: We are a Great Commission church, committed to making Christlike disciples in the nations. As a global community of faith, we are commissioned to take the good news of life in Jesus Christ to people everywhere and to spread the message of scriptural holiness across lands. **Our Core Values:** - Christian: As members of the Church Universal, we join with all true believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in embracing the historic Trinitarian creedal statements of Christian faith. - Holiness: God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. - Missional: We are a "sent people," responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church and the extension of His kingdom. Pastor Micah Moreno

Pastor Micah has been serving in ministry since 2002. Him and his wife, Angela are thankful to be serving BG First.

Micah loves to travel, the outdoors, and diving deep into topics around life of faith and humor.

He graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary and has been ordained since 2019.

Amanda Defevers

I have a passion for cooking, hiking, kayaking, and spending time outdoors. But above all, my greatest joy comes from serving God by nurturing, loving, and teaching the children at BG First Church.

At BG First, our children’s ministry is dedicated to helping kids discover Biblical truths and the teachings of Jesus through fun, interactive lessons and activities. We aim to provide a solid foundation for their faith journey, teaching them what it means to be Christ-like and to love others as Jesus loves us.

Here, children form meaningful relationships—not only with their peers and leaders but, most importantly, with Jesus. Building a relationship with Jesus takes intentionality, and we encourage kids to “talk with Jesus” through prayer, just like they would with their best friend. My hope is that what they learn here inspires them to bring the love of Jesus into their homes, schools, and communities.

When your child is with us, they will always know this: they are in a safe space where they can share their feelings, ask questions, and grow in their faith. Every time they walk through our doors, we want them to leave knowing two essential truths: Jesus loves them, and so do we!
